Brief History

The name Immaculata is derived from Immaculate and it signifies purity, spotless and untainted. The aim of imbibing the name for the School is to raise Children who are morally, psychologically, socially, intellectually sound and capable to face the challenges of life. The School is also said to maintain a high standard in discipline and education.

Immaculata Schools comprise nursery, primary and secondary schools.

  The Nursery/ Primary Section

Immaculata Nursery / Primary school came into existence on the 12th January 1987. It started with the Nursery section which had only one building consisting of five classrooms. Notwithstanding the little accommodation, the population was on the increase as 72 people were registered within two terms. As the pioneer pupils of the Nursery section graduated in 1989, additional building was constructed in 1991 because of the over growing population. In 1994, the Primary pupils started participating in the State and Federal examination and were doing excellently well.

The past Headmistresses of the School were as follows:

 Sr. Mary Joannes Anyanwu 1987-2001

 Sr. Mary Apolonia Anyanwu 2002-2003

 Sr. Mary Millicent Okoye 2003-2007

 Sr. Mary Uchechi Arinze 2007-2010

 Sr. Mary Chibugwum Nkwocha 2010 – 2013

 Sr. Mary

Each of these sisters at their own time made remarkable impacts in the growth and development of the School and worked hard to maintain a high academic and moral standard in the School.

Ten years old Immaculata Model Secondary School, Nnewi was initiated on the 15th day of September 2013. It will interest you to know that what is now known as Immaculata model Secondary School(IGMSS) Nnewi, began in 1977 as Women Training Center with only 20 students in role. Over the years, there have been improvements as the Institution gradually metamorphosed into a pre-marriage course institute and vocational course center and then into a Girls’ model Secondary School whose 10th anniversary we joyfully celebrate this year 2013. As one of the unique catholic institutions established by the congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, its sole aim is:
the promotion and facilitation of integral formation of young Nigerian Girls. In other words, IGMSS has a mission to produce intellectually self reliant, morally upright, socio-culturally balanced, physically elegant and spiritually sound young ladies who are deeply rooted in God.

Our Motto: Knowledge and Integrity

Immaculata Girls’ Model Secondary School, Nnewi School, Nnewi grooms her girls in graciousness, hard work, charity, discipline, excellence, diligence, firmness of character, neatness, holiness and decorum so that they leave here as highly knowledgeable ladies who value their integrity and have it to protect.
