New Regional Functionaries take Oath of Office

The Installation of the newly appointed Regional Superior and Councillors of the Archbishop Charles Heerey (Central) Region of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, took place on Saturday, 17th November, 2012. The ceremony which took place at the Regional House, Nnewi, began with Holy Mass celebrated by Very Rev. Msgr. Hypolite Adigwe, at 10.30am.

Addressing the Sisters who were to take the oath of office, Msgr. Adigwe reminded the Team that they have been called upon to serve in humility and compassion and to be conscious of the dangers of misuse of power.. They were to be servants and not Masters; just like Jesus who came to serve and not to be served.

He called on all the other Sisters in the Region who had turned out in great numbers to witness the occasion which was the first of its kind, to support the Functionaries with their prayers and loyalty. He also urged them to cooperate with these leaders and make- up for any deficiencies in them, bearing in mind that "nobody has graduated from the School of Experience because experience is a continuous event".

Msgr. Adigwe advised the Sisters to be united with their leaders for peace and progress to reign in the Region. He stressed the need for solidarity quoting the popular saying: "United we stand, divided we fall".

Finally, he called attention on the name the Region has chosen to bear the name of the father founder of the congregation: "Archbishop Charles Heerey Region”. According to him, it was a challenge to every member of this region to be exemplary in living out the Father Founder's charism of compassion and humility.

After the post communion prayers, the Superior General’s Representative and Councillor in charge of the Region, Sr. Mary Jerome Obiorah, officiated at the swearing-in ceremony of the New Regional Functionaries. Each of the Functionaries took an oath of office to abide by the Rule of Life of the Congregation and to perform her duties in the spirit of compassion and humility.

After the Mass, there were group photographs. There were gifts from the Region to each Sister. Sisters also exchanged Christmas gifts with each other. Songs, dances, march pass and other items of entertainment by the Immaculata Model Secondary School, the Postulants, the Novices and the Sisters were presented to mark the occasion.
