IMMACULATE HEART SISTERS INAUGURATE GOVERNING BOARD FOR SCHOOLS

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, on Saturday March 16, 2013, inaugurated the Governing Boards for all her educational Institutions, The inauguration, which took place at the Madonna Renewal Centre, Nkpor was conducted towards the end of the Holy Mass celebrated for the occasion.

 

In his sermon titled: “For the sake of the young”, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Blaise Emebo, a Lecturer and Formator at the Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu, commended the effort of the Congregation to pay attention to the education of the young people. He lamented that the Nigerian civil war and its aftermath, destroyed the Nigerian educational system.

                         

He thanked the members of the Boards of various schools, especially the lay faithful for accepting the assignment. He reminded them of the weight of the responsibility placed on their shoulder and asked them not to relent in their effort to see that the children receive the very best the schools can offer   in the standard of education and in moral values.

 

In the same vein, Sr. Mary Raphael Therese Okeke, IHM, thanked the members of the Boards for their presence. She explained the composition of the Boards and the objectives for setting up the Governing Boards. According to her, the Boards are to insist on good quality of teaching and educational ethics. The members have to study the congregational education policies and apply them together with the principal. They are to lend their support to the Principals of the school and assist them in insuring that good standards are maintained.

 

In her turn, Sr. Mary Jerome Obiora, the Councillor in charge of education, went through the terms of reference given to the members of the Boards and urged each and every one of them to do their best of the good of the young people.

 

At last, the Boards were inaugurated and commissioned by the Superior General, Mother Mary Claude Oguh, IHM. The members received the insignia of the mandate to start work. She commended them to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for guidance and protection, and urged them to give their best for the greater glory of God and for a better future for the children.
