19 Candidates Join the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ

On July 13, 2013, 19 Postulants began their journey into the Religious life in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, Nigeria. This is a stage in Religious Life called the Novitiate. It was a day of joy not just for the Novices, but for the entire Congregation as this assures her survival and growth. They were received by the Superior General, Mother Mary Claude Oguh, IHM.

In her address to the newly received Novices, Mother Mary Claude expounded the meaning of Religious life. According to her, it is a life of consecration, freely chosen by the individual in response to God’s call. It is a life of total Consecration to God. In it the individual takes the three vows of chastity, poverty and obedience in imitation of Jesus Christ. She reminded them that they were taking a serious step in their life, a period of formation during which they will learn all they need to know about religious life in general and the Congregation in particular, as well as take time to listen to the Holy Spirit in the silence of their hearts so as to discern properly their vocation. She enjoined the Novices not to be afraid as God would be there to guide them. She also pledged the support of the Sisters in accompanying them with prayers.

The celebration was also marked by entertainment by the older Novices and Postulants. There were songs, dramas and dances. The new Novices expressed their joy and appreciation to all who have helped them up to this stage in their life and asked for prayers to enable them go through the period of formation smoothly.
