New Members take the Vows in IHM Congregation

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, have added to their number, 20 young Sisters who made their first Religious Profession at the Immaculate Heart Novitiate Chapel, Nkpor in Onitsha Archdiocese, Nigeria on August 3, 2013. The profession was made within the Eucharistic Sacrifice officiated by His Excellency, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha. In his sermon, the Archbishop explained that these young Sisters have spent some years in formation, learning about the Religious life and about the Religious family they were about to join. Their taking the bold step of taking the vows indicated that they have understood the intricacies involved in living the Religious life in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ. Addressing the Congregation, Archbishop Valerian said that among the countries in the world, God has favoured Nigeria, and in particular, Igboland, with many vocations to the priesthood and religious life. It is a privilege which carries with it responsibilities of thanking God for His gifts and as well as supporting those chosen as priests or religious with prayers, good counsel, material and financial donations for their work. He enjoined the families and friends not be a cause of distractions by asking a Sister to provide for the material needs of her family because, by her vow of poverty, she owns nothing of hers. After the Mass, the young Sisters were entertained by the Novices, their families and home parishes with songs, dances and gifts.
