IHM Sisters celebrates feast of St. Claude de la Colombiere

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ turned out in great numbers to celebrate the feast day of St. Claude, the patron saint of their Superior General, Mother Mary Claude Oguh. St. Claude was a French Jesuit Priest who lived in the 17th century. He was known for his devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; a compassionate and devout preacher and missionary who brought many to Jesus Christ through the kind of life he lived as well as his preaching.

In his sermon, the Chaplain of the IHM Novitiate complex, Nkpor, Nigeria, reminded the faithful of our obligation to preach Christ to all through our words, but more importantly, our actions. According to him, God places before us, opportunities to be compassionate like St. Claude. He urged all not to miss such opportunities which serve as ladder taking us to Jesus.

At the end of the Mass, special blessings were called upon the Superior General by the Chief celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Okonkwo, Cmf. The procession moved to the square where the Sisters paid special homage to the Father Founder, Most Rev. Charles Heerey, CSSp.

Mother Mary Claude was conducted to see the gifts brought by the Sisters. There were entertainments of various sorts including Match Past by the Sisters, songs and dances by the pupils, students, aspirants, postulants and novices.
