“I am happy to celebrate with you.  I appreciate what your Superior General is doing.”  That was the start of Governor‘s address to the Sisters. He enlightened all in some of his areas of concentration in the State; Education, Security, Health and Agriculture.  In the sector of Education for instance, he elaborated it to include: Infrastructure, Comfort of students and Training of Teachers and their welfare.

Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Ebele Obiano, the Governor’s wife together with Governor’s entourage joined in the Holy Mass which started at about 11.15am.  Rev. Fr. John Manafe, the Chaplain to the Government House and Rev. Fr. Daniel Onuorah, the administrator of St Charles Boromeo Hospital Onitsha concelebrated the Holy Mass.  Rev. Fr. In his homily, Fr. Onuorah pointed out that we are celebrating love made manifest to us. Referring to the Gospel passage taken from John 20:1-9, he said that as Mary Magdalene ran to give the apostles the news of the resurrection and the apostles ran to confirm the story, so each one of us is called to run to tell the world the goodnews.  He further said; “The Lord has empowered us through his Paschal Mystery and he wants to work through us.  Therefore, He searches for who He will send.  All have to examine their response to this call.

Shortly before the Mass ended, Fr. Manafe addressed the Sisters on the importance of voting on the 11th April.  The Superior General with members of her Council had a group photograph with the Governor and his family after the Holy Mass.

Everyone then proceeded to the Archbishop Charles Heerey Hall for a short reception.  After the opening prayer and presentation of kola nuts, the Superior General read a welcome address where she officially welcomed the Governor on behalf of our Religious Institute.  She congratulated him for his work in the State, thanked him for the assistance given to some of our projects and asked for further assistance.

Her Excellency in the closing remark said; “I want to thank you for hosting us and putting so many things together within a short notice.  May God bless you.”  The Governor made a donation to the Sisters after his speech.  After, he had lunch with the Sisters at the Centre’s Refectory where he also cut the Easter cake.

Her Excellency in her turn urged the Sisters to pray for the government of “Our Action Governor.” She added: “Remember, it is only God that will help him to serve and the prayer of the Blessed Virgin Mary.”  She also asked for support in her activities for the less privileged in the State.
