IHM HOSPITAL AND MATERNITY IS 25!

Immaculate Heart Hospital and Maternity, Nkpor has its Silver Jubilee celebrated on 12th December at the premises.

The Health Facility started as a Maternity in 1978 at a nearby premises but it was upgraded through the years and was formally opened and registered as a Hospital in 1990; hence, the Silver Jubilee celebration.

“Anambra State is concerned with the health of the people.”  That was Dr. Joe Akabuike, Commissioner of Health, Anambra State who was present for the celebration speaking.  He congratulated the Management of the Hospital for sustaining the Hospital for 25years. 

The Commissioner said that what is important is having a functional hospital.  He added that he has officially unveiled every project that will take off in the Hospital and be there for their commissioning.

Msgr. Jerome Madueke, Awka Diocesan Director of Social Communication was the homilist and Msgr. Hypolite Adigwe, the chief celebrant, of the Pontifical Mass celebrated to mark the grand finale of the Jubilee celebration.  Msgr. Madueke said it was coincidental that the celebration falls on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe who declared herself as ‘Mother of tenderness and compassion’.  “It means the IHM Sisters will show compassion to the sick in the Hospital and better still, in the ‘Year of Mercy’, he added.  He went on to say that no one is exempt from the work of mercy especially in this ‘Year of Mercy’.  “You can’t be compassionate except through passion”, he asserted.

Msgr. Madueke enjoined the faithful to rise to support the Church and so enable her do service to the people.

After the Mass, all went down to the newly built Pharmacy for opening.  The Commissioner, Dr. Akabuike cut the tape flanked by Mother Mary Claude Oguh, the Superior General of IHM Congregation, Rev. Fr. Theo Odukwe, Episcopal Vicar of Dunukofia Region, Fr Samuel Nwadike, the Chaplain, IHM Complex, Nkpor, Fr. Benignus Oguejiofor, Fr. Stanley Ozigbo, Manager, Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside and Sr. Mary Doris Frances Ginigaeme, the Pharmacist. 

Planting of Jubilee Tree followed and all proceeded to reception and entertainment ground.  During this phase there was cutting of the Jubilee cake.  A singing group of St Augustine’s Parish, Nkpor, the CWO, All Saints and the Hospital Staff led in the entertainment for the day.

The celebration ended with Jubilee award given to long-stayed-staff, two 25year olds delivered in the Hospital, previous patients, mothers that delivered severally - twins or single- in the hospital and families that frequent the hospital.  The Hospital Management represented by Sr. Mary Trinitas Umeh, the Hospital Administrator and the Superior General appreciated all that attended the occasion and contributed to its success.

Emma Idemobi, the Chairman of Idemili North represented the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Hon Chris Oghame represented the Chaiman of the occasion, Dr. Raphael Nnabuife and the DPO of Ogidi Region was represented.
